Cultural Olympiad

Combining art and sport – or “muscles and mind” as Pierre de Coubertin put it, is one of Olympism’s cornerstones. Art and sport interact and enrich each other with the Paris 2024 Games. For the Games to be open, participatory, uniting and inclusive, Paris 2024 is encouraging everyone – artists, troupes, non-profits, communities, sports clubs and so forth – to play a part in the Games’ cultural programme. Culture is offering more and more people in towns and cities the opportunity to take part in the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad starting now.

From the bid phase, Paris 2024 has made the strong choice to incorporate culture at the heart of theproject.

Building on this momentum, representatives of France’s rich artistic life – musicians, dancers, actors, photographers, visual artists, etc. – are getting involved to jointly create this celebration for everyone with the Cultural Olympiad.

• A popular celebration, which will run through to the end of summer 2024.

• Hundreds of events that will be free to access, concerts, performances, exhibitions, dance shows, films, workshops for all ages, celebratory parades… at the crossroads between art, sport and the Olympic and Paralympic values.

• A unique regional network, in constant communication with the Olympic and Paralympic movements.

• A wide range of projects “away from the stadiums” and off the beaten track: in public spaces, sports halls, stadiums, theatres, secret places, museums…

Because sport and culture have so many values in common: a focus on performance and excellence, as well as sharing (social, family, generational), with people at the heart of everything.

What is the Cultural Olympiad?

The Cultural Olympiad is a multidisciplinary artistic and cultural programme that unfolds from the end of the previous Games to the end of the following Paralympic Games. Paris 2024, in other words, has three seasons to add artistic creation to sports thrills and chills.

The Cultural Olympiad is an original programme to explore the connections between art and athletics, and the values they share  excellence, inclusion, cultural diversity and universalism for instance.

It brings culture into sports venues and unexpected places. From summer 2022 to September 2024, several large gatherings will feature artistic creation to spur conversations between sport and culture in all the towns and cities that wish to be part of this adventure.

The Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad: a one-of-a-kind programme combining artistic practice and sporting culture

Artists, cultural institutions and organisations in the sporting movement can apply to be part of this all-new programme.
