Sailing test event
From 9 to 16 July 2023, the first test event held by Paris 2024 is taking place at the Roucas Blanc Marina in Marseille, where the Paris 2024 Olympic sailing events will take place in 2024. The event is being entirely organised by Paris 2024 in conditions close to those planned for 2024, in order to test our approach. Nevertheless, it will not be an exact reproduction of what will happen in 2024, as the arrangements in place will be a minimised version; Marseille Marina will not be decked out in the full Look of the Games, for example, and tickets to the test event will not be sold to the public.
The Paris 2024 testing programme includes several kinds of test: the Paris 2024 test events, which are entirely organised by Paris 2024; events organised by third party entities, where Paris 2024 can test certain measures that planned for the Games; and operational tests, which are highly targeted tests carried out by Paris 2024 at competition venues to trial precise operational aspects.
Marseille Marina opens the way for test events
The first Paris 2024 test event will take place at the Roucas Blanc Marina in Marseille from 9 to 16 July 2023, a year before it hosts the sailing events. This week of competitions, scheduled identically to the Games, will bring together the best specialists from all over the world. A total of 348 will attend, close to the real conditions at the Games as, in 2024, there will be 330 athletes. This event will enable Paris 2024 to trial the sporting, medical and technological systems that will be applied at Marseille Marina the following year.
Paris 2024 will also organise two other test events in 2023: an international triathlon and para triathlon competition from 17 to 20 August 2023, following the same routes along the Seine and on the road as at the Games, and an international mountain bike competition in Elancourt on 24 September 2023, also using the same track as the Games.
