The Arena La Chapelle, a new sports hub in northern Paris
The Arena La Chapelle will host the Olympic badminton and para taekwondo and para badminton events during the Paris 2024 Games.
Beyond them, this Arena will become a lively new landmark in this up-and-coming neighbourhood on the border between Paris and Seine Saint Denis. It is designed to be open to all, especially to the people living nearby, and to host a variety of sport activities. It will seat 8,000 fans and complete the choice of sport and live performance venues throughout Paris. It is scheduled to open in 2023 and Paris Basketball will move in as its resident club as soon as it does.
This multipurpose venue will be between Porte de la Chapelle and Porte d’Aubervilliers, in the north of Paris. Construction will begin in 2021 and the complex will be ready to host sports competitions and cultural events in the summer of 2023.
For big events and for every day
Paris has needed a medium-sized venue for a long time. This new 8,000-seat arena will be exactly that: it will host major sport highlights in northern Paris and provide Paris Basketball, its resident club, with a home base befitting its bold aspirations as soon as it opens.
The surrounding neighbourhood also needs more sports facilities, and the two gyms adjoining the Arena will provide them. Neighbours will also be able to enjoy a wide array of cultural events as soon as the Arena opens, as it will also host live performances and conventions.
Eco-designed
The Arena La Chapelle’s design is distinctly eco-friendly: 80% of the building’s surface will be covered with greenery, blending gracefully into the parks and gardens that will surround it. The front will be clad with recyclable aluminium and most of the building materials will be bio-based (principally wood).
An Arena for all
The design will also be universal: the main hall, the facilities around it and the terrace over the entire complex will be accessible to everyone.

The timeline :
- Summer 2020 to summer 2021: design, planning permission, preparation works.
